HISTORY

OUR PARTNER

Sustainable Water, founded in spring of 2010 in Richmond, Va., by Jonathan Lanciani and Aaron Hollander, is a for-profit company that provides innovative and sustainable wastewater treatment and reuse solutions for bulk water consumers.  The company is comprised of a team of experts with diverse backgrounds and skillsets, including mechanical and environmental engineers, water treatment experts, urban planners and environmental advocates.

Sustainable Water first began as a consulting firm to Organica Water - an ecological wastewater treatment company headquartered in Budapest, Hungary. Its first initial goal was to build a decentralized water reuse market around Organica Technology in North America. In fall of 2012, Lanciani and Hollander – intent on expanding the North American treatment/reuse market even further –reinvented the company as a multi-faceted solutions provider and development company utilizing multiple treatment technologies.

In 2012, Sustainable Water added Living Machine technology to its suite of solutions. Living Machine Systems (LMS), based out of Charlottesville, Virginia, designs engineered tidal wetlands to purify wastewater so that it can be reused for non-potable applications on-site. LMS complements Organica Technology by providing supplemental reuse solutions for market sectors requiring smaller design capacities, flexible site integration and even lower operational costs.

Sustainable Water has been successful in gaining more awareness and acceptance for ecological water treatment and reuse. Today, a growing number of commercial, institutional and government clients are using Living Machine systems for schools, resorts, zoos, office buildings and food processing operations in North America. Living Machine Systems have been featured in numerous U.S. media outlets, including Wired Magazine, the EPA website and TreeHugger, as well as dozens of features through college news services, such as those at Furman University.

There are currently Living Machines in more than 20 U.S. cities, including San Francisco; Portland, Ore.; Kansas City, Mo.; and Columbus, Ohio, as well as a number of international locations such as Ghana and the Netherlands. There are Organica treatment facilities in more than 24 locations around the world, including Hungary, France, Austria, Poland and China.

Sustainable water is a leader in the areas of alternative wastewater treatment and water reuse. Its solutions offer multiple advantages to conventional treatment technologies in terms of energy use, effluent quality, and siting flexibility. Additionally, its solutions offer clients reduced operational risks and a positive impact on the environment by conserving valuable water supplies. With innovative financing arrangements, called a Water Purchase Agreement, Sustainable Water can build water reclamation facilities for zero capital expense and still provide tens-of-thousands of dollars in annual cost savings to its clients.
